The public-private partnership was procured through Infrastructure Ontario using the design-build-finance-maintain model. The facility achieved LEED® Silver certification due to its focus on healthy indoor environments, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and efficient use of energy, water and other resources. Other green initiatives include diverting 75% of the site’s construction waste from landfills, reducing indoor water use by more than 20% and using low-emitting adhesives, paints, carpet and sealants.
Forum reached substantial completion on the 30-year operating term SWDC project in 2013, then sold its interest in 2016, maintaining its role as the asset manager on behalf of an institutional owner.
